Classical Magic

Years ago (around 5) I purchased from a garage sale, a 3/4 size nylon string acoustic guitar, in the hopes that my daughter (she was the only child I had at that stage) would show an interest in learning guitar.

Nope. No interest other than laughing when I played three blind mice or mary had a little lamb.

Anthony, on the other hand, is quite fascinated by guitars (so much so that he dragged my Les Paul through the house, over the top of the ridged carpet/lino seperators into the study. I wasn’t impressed). He actually tries to get sound out of the thing, and loves to get hold of plectrums (which he promptly loses).

So I recently purchased some new strings for said 3/4 size guitar. They (the strings) cost me more than the whole guitar did 5 years ago. Admittedly, $15 5 years ago would today pay for a three bedroom house, located in Spring Street, but I still wonder- should I restring now, or wait until  he stops treating the guitar as a train track for Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends (Please notice the plectrum in the last carriage of the train).

Another weekend with the kids

G’day.

Another weekend with the kids. I actually haven’t had them over for quite a while, as the last time they were supposed to be over here, I was in Melbourne. I bought the young man a second hand 16″ BMX with training wheels this week, and whilst he loves it, it is a little too big for him. We managed (the three of us) to go for a bit of a ride this morning, although most of my riding consisted of travelling at 3ks an hour, pushing Anthony along, as he doesn’t yet have the strength in his legs to ride uphill. He doens’t quite get the back-pedal brake thing either. It was still lots of fun, with Natasza zooming ahead yelling out to me that she was going to win (being the bastard that I am, I left Anthony to fend for himself for a minute whilst I sped up and overtook Natasza… she had the grace to laugh). Because of the terrain around here, I had to make some adjustments to the training wheels on Anthony’s BMX, as when he rides into a slight depression along the drive, he just sits there with the back wheel off the ground spinning like mad (the back wheel, not him).

I managed to give myself a bit of a fright too! I was bragging to Natasza about how, in my youth, I was the king of push bikes at high school, and was the only person who could do a one-handed wheelie (mono, whatever). I planted the foot, pulled up on the handlebars, and the front wheel came off the ground at a great rate of knots. Luckily, I didn’t flip with the bike, but managed to slide my fat ass off the seat, and landed on my feet while the bike kinda sprung out from underneath me (BTW Seebs, I’m never getting (?) lug pedals).

I’d better get back into developing some of my long-lost skills. I need to look at least a little competent when I go riding with the gang in Melbourne at Christmas time.

Also, who has some advice on how to stop the handgrips from sliding around on the handlebars? I could wrap electrical insulation tape around the bars and then replace the handgrips, but I think there may be something better I could use. Any tips would be helpful.

Also any advice how to make sure that the pictures I upload aren’t defaulting to thumbnail size…. this really pisses me off. It should be around 213Kb, not 213bytes. Bloody thing.

The bad part about Holidays….

18 September, 2006 at 8:11 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 2 Comments

…is that they end. They must, otherwise they would be know as Normaldays. Which they are not.

Back to work today, only to find that the work has piled up in my absence, so I have to work harder to sort it all out…

 .

Damn!!!

 .

Although in the first day back to work I sorted out a printer replacement issue (I requested this printer be replaced three weeks ago, and IBM our contracted computer hardware provider, in their infinite wisdom, waited until the last work day before my return to do anything about it…) so we now have a colour printer that works (Score 1). And I requested a veritable shit-load of money for one of my clients. And got told to…….. go ahead and order the items required, and that my request would be approved (Score 2). And got definitive proof of my pending upwardly movement in pay (Score 3).

Damn, I need a holiday!!

Holidays

14 September, 2006 at 12:27 am | Posted in Uncategorized | 4 Comments

Ahhh…. Holidays… time to relax, make a start on the spring cleaning, knowing that summer is just around the corner.

I am sitting here just after midnight, knowing that I have a responsibility to post something, but just can’t quite get my head around what.

I have invested in a Mongoose Pro mountain bike, which I purchased from my local Cashies, and Seebs, in his infinite desire to be helpful, straightened the front wheel for me (for which I am almost eternally grateful) and after a bit of adjustment to the brakes, I can now actually stop the bike in a reasonable distance.

The hard part is actually getting on the thing and riding it. I have around 15-20 kg’s I want to lose (without altering my oh-so-healthy diet) and “tone-up” the flab that was once a prime specimen of…. scrawny, underweight, (yet healthy) teenager.

It’s been over 13 years since I was a teenager, and with the addition of around 45-50kg’s in that time, the task may seem a little unachievable. I can hope. I could also stop drinking litres of coke and/or beer, but I just don’t think the will power will see me through that. My distorted way of thinking is this:- if I do enough excercise, I can eat WTF I want, drink WTF I want, and still lose weight.

And I believe that spring is the time to start.

I also need to give up the fags (he says with a butt hanging out of his mouth right now).

Oooohhhh…. that line is NASTY (stop smiling coops)

Cigarettes. I have the book. I will read it in the not too distant future. You’d think having lost several much-loved people to the dreaded “C” that I would give up smoking as a matter of course. I always was….ummm whats the word I’m looking for?? It means I do the opposite of what I know is good for me/right thing to do/…..oh, that’s it…. STUPID…nah, there is another word, and I think it starts with ‘a’, but can’t be sure..

Anyway, The aim this spring/summer is to quit the smokes, and get a little bit slimmer. And a lot fitter.

Wish me luck- G

I passed the international licence tests last night, finally… I figured out what was wrong,.

I had only consumed two cans of beer. After a few (?) more, I passed (out) with flying colours…

Sweeeet!
